YAPL: Yet Another Payphone List
The FAQ
Why don't my phones show up?
Chances are you are a new user. New users cannot directly add new phones. When a new phone is added, it goes into a moderation queue to wait for approval into the main database. Approval takes about 24 hours. Once you have had 10 phones approved, you get bumped up from n00b to a full user, and can upload phones directly into the database. They can also adopt phones, upload pictures of phones, and leave comments on phones.
Thats stupid! Censorship! Censorship!
Sorry, but I think that asking someone to find 10 phones before accessing the full database is a reasonable request. Fiding 10 payphones isn't that hard. There are four within five minutes walking of my house. There are 20 within 15 minutes walking. HOWEVER, if you really have trouble finding 10 phones, for example, you are in east bumfuck with a population of 6, contact BlackRatchet and explain your situation. He's a nice guy, he'll listen.
I submitted a phone. Why didn't my picture show up?
Right now the database rejects any picture bigger then 750K
The info is wrong for phone X, what can I do?
Well, if you are the caretaker, fix it. If you arent, there will soon be a link to 'flag' a phone. When you flag it, you'll have a chance to desribe what is wrong, and submit it. The moderators and, if applicable, the caretaker, will be alerted and we shall see what we can do.
What do the fields mean?
Good question.
- Phone number - Phone number of the Phone. Duh ;)
- Address - Street Address. Can be either a full address ("123 Main St") or cross street ("Corner of JFK St and Oswald Blvd").
- Location - Approximate location. We prefer and location an address, but sometimes it doesn't work. This can be a more general address ("7-11 on Pine St."). What I am for is something that can be googled and have a map produced.
- City - City the Phone is located in
- State - State the phone is located in
- ZIP - 5 digit ZIP code of the phone. Optional
- Carrier - Who owns the phone. It's written on the phone card.
- LD Carrier - On some Hybrid phones, there is a seperate carrier for long distance. This is also written on the card.
- Incoming calls - Whether or not the phone accepts incoming calls
- Coin Signalling - Whether the phone is a COCOT (Customer Owned Coin Operated Telephone) or uses ACTS (Automated Coin Toll Signalling).
- Model - What is the make and model of the phone. We'll have a guide soon
- Current Condition - The current condition of the phone. Your options are:
- Working - Phone is working and is able to place (and/or recieve) calls.
- Bad - Phone works, is able to place calls, but has a defect.
- Not working - Phone is intact, but currently not functioning.
- Damaged - Phone is physically broken.
- Under Repair - Phone is either not working or damaged, but the phone company has been notified.
- Removed - Phone is not there, wiring, shell, and/or bracket remains.
- Non Existant - Phone, Shell, and Wiring have all been removed
- Caretaker - Whether or not you would like to be made caretaker of this phone
- Picture - A picture of the phone
- Rotation - Wherether you have a photo, or if you do whether it's a landscape or portrait
- Notes - General notes. ("This phone has a loud hum", "This phone is the leftmost phone in the bank of four", "This phone smells like fish")
How big should my photos be?
Under 750K, I use 1024x768 and it works fine for me. Also, portraits are better then landscapes, considering most phones stand upright.
